What did you do before coming to Frankel Group?
After college I was a public health advocate, with a focus on infectious diseases such as HIV, TB, and malaria. The work focused on innovation incentives for neglected diseases, and intellectual property and supply chain issues in the poorest markets. After four years, I wanted to understand better what motivates industry and how to harness that to meet public health needs. That sent me to business school, with a summer working in Malawi for Partners in Health.
What made you choose Frankel Group?
FG people are some of the smartest people I have ever met, but what stood out was how down to earth the firm was - tangible, practical, results-oriented.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Recently we were asked by a small start up biotech to identify potential partnerships for their early stage oncology and infectious disease assets. These were very early drugs - even the diseases they'd be used in were up for debate. At the same time, I was working for one of the world's largest companies, finding early stage assets for them to license and bring forward. To be immersed in both projects, simultaneously, and see the two sides of the coin was terrific.
How would you describe the team environment?
The team environment stretches across the organization - people support each other across all levels, whether on the same team or not. There is a real love for debate and discussion, but it is carried on with a sense of mutual exploration and respect.

What did you do before coming to Frankel Group?
I studied Biology at Tufts, and after school I worked as a clinical research coordinator. After a year, I moved on to an analyst position at a firm that specialized in medical literature reviews and analyses. There I became fascinated with the way that the evidence base we created influenced and supported our pharma clients' strategies. That led me to graduate school at Yale for an MBA/MPH, where I spent my summers working in Outcomes Research at Pfizer and in Marketing at Covidien.
How would you describe Frankel Group culture?
FG's small size enables everyone to really get to know each other well and create personal connections that extend far beyond our work. People here truly care about each other, love to have fun together, and will always go out of their way to lend a hand, for work or for anything else.
What about Frankel Group makes you excited to come to work?
I love becoming a 'mini-expert' on so many different disease and therapeutic areas. I'm a naturally curious person, and I've always loved all things science and medicine, so it's fascinating for me to immerse myself in so many specialized medical topics, and emerge on the other end understanding the subject well enough to advise a client. For my first project, we're working with a large pharma to prepare for the launch of a new drug that is demonstrating amazing efficacy for a subset of patients with a specific genetic mutation. We're helping the company understand diagnostic testing patterns for this mutation and develop strategies to maximize identification of patients that can be helped - something I can truly feel good about.

What made you choose Frankel Group?
While the life science work here at FG fit my career goals and aspirations, the thing that won me over was the people. Throughout my entire day of interviews at FG, I felt as if I was just having an interesting conversation about the life science industry. The people here are incredibly intelligent, down to earth & personable with a great deal of passion both for the firm itself as well as for medicine and life sciences. By the end of the day, I felt right at home.
What most impresses you about Frankel Group?
What impressed me most about FG when I first started was the great camaraderie that FG employees have with one another. While we may work tireless hours alongside each other in the office, many of my co-workers are also my closest friends here in NYC outside the office. Another thing that I'm continually impressed with is the depth that FG work goes into to help answer our client's questions. We leave no rock unturned and really get at the root of the questions/problem to better understand our clients' needs and how we can help them.
What has been your favorite Frankel Group moment so far?
Some of my favorite moments at the Frankel Group are those times where multiple teams are working in the office and we break to have "Family Dinner." Each person/team would be responsible for ordering a dish and we'd all gather in the lunch room and take a break from our work together.

What made you choose Frankel Group?
I love the analytics and problem-solving components of scientific research but I also know that it wasn't something that I wanted to continue from a day-to-day perspective. I was looking for something that allowed me to maintain the same level of analytic rigor outside of the lab, without having to give up the connection to novel aspects of science and medicine.
What is your favorite part of working at Frankel Group?
Each project is really a totally new challenge - you get to learn about something new and think about science in a different way. Beyond just thinking about how novel or cool an opportunity is, you go to the next level - so what? How does this matter? What kind of impact could it actually have? How should this impact strategic decisions? It stretches your way of thinking and it's a great balance of science and business.
What surprised you when you first started?
Two things stand out - the rigor of the analyses and the teamwork. I was surprised to learn the degree to which people dig in here - the recommendations here are really supported by rigorous quantitative analyses and don't feel like hand-waving. You feel like you can really back up the findings and provide value to the client. I think because it's a small firm, the teamwork aspect is really unique. I've always felt supported in projects, even through frustrating times, and the entire process is a big group effort.

What made you choose Frankel Group?
Quite honestly, one of the first things that stood out to me was when Barry Frankel came to Penn to speak about FG at the Penn Biotech Group. Immediately I felt like FG would have a personable, laid back, collegial atmosphere. Looking more deeply at the capabilities of FG, I realized that there's an opportunity to learn so much, given the wide range of projects that we do for biotech and pharma companies.
What is your favorite part of working at Frankel Group?
I think it's a combination of the people, and the types of projects we work on. Everyone at FG is friendly and laid back, yet driven, intelligent, and eager to learn. The projects that I've worked on in my short time have ranged in scope, therapeutic area, and functional expertise. This along with my interactions with clients and coworkers have helped me develop both personally and professionally.
What has been your favorite project at Frankel Group?
My favorite project was my first full project on glioblastoma (brain cancer). We were able to quickly understand the different market dynamics and understand the various drivers that may shift the treatment paradigm. My favorite non-project moments at FG were when I first started - we had cake probably twice a week, due to all the birthdays!

What made you choose Frankel Group?
The firm culture in terms of work ethic and social nature really made my decision. From the beginning of the recruiting process, FG's transparency and unique approach was evident. I really appreciated this early chance to see what a day as a FG analyst would be like. Secondly everyone at the firm was really aware of industry trends and willing to share an opinion. I was very impressed and excited to be part of the firm's strategic recommendations.
What is your favorite part of working at Frankel Group?
Knowing that I will be making a solid contribution to the final recommendations we give to our clients. I really enjoy the responsibilities analysts are given whether it is to wade through messy or non-existent data or come up with unique approaches to answer the client's question. All members of of a team regardless of title are tied into the whole project process and there is constantly a chance to contribute and learn.
What has been your favorite Frankel Group moment?
My favorite moment so far was Frankel Fun Day. It was great to see people's work styles play out in a more casual environment, and despite being new I already felt like a part of the FG family. I also really enjoy the traditions the firm has whether it is the new hire mock presentations, happy hours, or cake on your birthday - even if it is only four days after you join the firm!
