The Managing Directors and Principals of TFG have over 100 years of pharmaceutical and life science industry experience, and together with the team of seasoned TFG Senior Consultants, Consultants, Associates and Analysts bring expertise from not only the supplier side of the healthcare industry but also in-depth experience from the academia, payer, provider and investment sectors of the industry as well.

Sidnee C. Pinho, Principal
TFG Experience
Sidnee has been with The Frankel Group since 1997, during which time she has worked on an array of project types that span the pharmaceutical/biotechnology value chain, from efficiency of discovery efforts and clinical development planning, through strategic marketing and sales planning, as well as franchise development in various therapeutic categories. Her disease expertise is broad as well, including gastroenterology, infectious disease, rheumatology, oncology, and cardiovascular conditions.

Some of the most recent projects that she has managed include the development of a clinical development plan and target product profile for a bone-marrow derived stem cell product for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction, in addition to a study of orphan indications and the potential to leverage Proof-of-Concept (POC) trials to garner formal FDA approval.

Pre-TFG Experience
Prior to joining TFG, Sidnee worked as an equity research associate for Deutsche Banc Alex Brown covering the biotechnology market. Prior to DB, she was with Booz-Allen & Hamilton in their Communications, Media & Technology Practice where she was a strategy consultant in the areas of benchmarking, market modeling, and due diligence. In addition, she has worked in the Marketing Services and International Finance divisions of Pfizer, Inc, and led a student team that built and launched a telescope for NASA and the University of Pennsylvania Physics Department in 1995 (technologies included GPS directional analysis and CCD imaging).

Education
Sidnee has earned a BAS in Systems Engineering from The School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, a BSE in Finance and Multinational Management from The Wharton School, and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from NYU/Stern.

Devyn Smith, PhD., Principal
TFG Experience
Devyn has been at TFG since January, 2003. He has had a wide range of experiences, across multiple therapeutic areas, including pulmonology, infectious disease, diabetes/metabolic, neurology, psychiatry, cardiovascular, dermatology, rheumatology, hematology, and immunology. During his time at TFG, he has had the opportunity to investigate a host of technology platforms, including basic R&D tools, cellular therapeutics, gene therapy, and macromolecules/biologic products. Client relationships have ranged from large pharma to small biotech companies.

While at TFG, Devyn has had a diverse range of experiences with TFG clients including: (1) developing an analytical tool for the assessment and selection of strategically important indications and technologies for a large biotechnology company, (2) performing an assessment of technology platforms for an immunology franchise, as well as the scoring and ranking of platform technologies to enable in-licensing business development efforts of a biotechnology company, (3) performing multiple market assessments of various diseases that were incorporated into a cohesive franchise strategy for several large pharmaceutical companies, and (4) assessing the market opportunity and specific market segments for a novel medical device to assist a medical device company in making a go-no go decision.

Pre-TFG Experience
Prior to joining TFG, Devyn was at Adventis Corporation working as a management consultant to clients in information intensive companies including: pharmaceutical, telecommunications, and manufacturing companies. Projects included corporate strategy development, new product strategy development and launch, strategic marketing plan development, and process improvement plan development.

Education
Devyn holds a PhD in Genetics from Harvard Medical School. His research focused on embryonic development and retroviral technologies for gene transfer in vertebrates, which led to 12 publications in leading journals such as Cell, Nature, and Development. He also holds an MS from Idaho State University in Developmental Biology and a BS in Zoology and Chemistry from Brigham Young University.

Doug B Pfaff, Principal
The Frankel Group

Doug joined TFG in 2005.  His projects have spanned numerous therapeutic areas including oncology, metabolics, neurology, immunology, inflammation, rheumatology, cardiology, and hematology.  His experiences have also covered a range of client relationships, from small biotech companies to big pharma.

 Doug’s work at TFG has spanned a range of project types, including: (1) compound lifecycle planning: prioritizing and sequencing opportunities based on clinical, commercial and strategic criteria, (2) corporate strategy development: setting corporate vision to extend the business model beyond the status quo, developing the business plan to support the vision, (3) biogeneric opportunity evaluation: developing go/no-go recommendations on whether to develop a biosimilar for leading biologics, (4) guidance document development: setting best practices for key processes such as TPP and risk assessment development, and (5) war-gaming:  facilitating sessions for the product team of a $2B+ product to enhance their understanding of their competitors’ likely strategies given certain market conditions, and their best response to these strategies

 Prior to joining TFG, Doug was a Case Team Leader at Bain & Company, a strategy consulting firm.  While at Bain, Doug worked in a wide range of areas including market assessment, asset/company due diligence and valuation, sales force optimization, strategic prioritization of business units, and implementation project management.  Prior to Bain, Doug worked as the head of engineering for the surgical products division of Getinge/Castle, Inc.

 Doug holds a Masters of Business Administration with honors from Columbia Business School, and a Bachelors of Science Summa Cum Laude in Engineering from Duke University.

Benjamin N. Rymzo, Principal

Ben first joined The Frankel Group in 1999, and rejoined the firm in 2007.  His experience spans a range of therapeutic areas including infectious disease, respiratory disease, dermatology, inflammatory disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and metabolic disorders, as well as technology platform experience in cell therapy and drug delivery. Recent projects have included an analysis of global growth opportunities in infectious disease to establish an investment strategy for a global biopharmaceutical company, franchise development strategy for an established biotechnology product, and a vaccine market entry strategy for a biotechnology company. Prior engagements have also spanned market assessments, target product profile identification, and competitive strategy.

Prior to joining TFG, Ben was with the Strategy & Operations Group of Deloitte Consulting, in their Health Care & Life Sciences Practice.  While there, his engagements included growth strategy, M&A strategy, new product development and roll-out planning, market assessment, and competitive strategy.

Ben holds a BA from the College of Arts & Sciences at Cornell University, and an MBA in Finance from New York University Stern School of Business.
