Portfolio and Technology Platform Strategies
The Frankel Group has performed a number of technology and portfolio optimization projects for large and small companies alike. These projects range from individual technology opportunity assessments to broad portfolio assessment and prioritization approaches to strategic clinical development planning. Portfolio and Technology Platform engagements may include any or all of the following components:
Technology Assessment
A combination of robust secondary and primary research are used to investigate the market, competitive and, technical/scientific issues surrounding a given technology platform or product to determine if and how it will perform in the current / future marketplace. A detailed revenue / valuation model is typically developed which translates the above analyses into a financial expression of the opportunity…on an absolute as well as risk adjusted basis. Scenario analyses and simulations are applied to provide additional rigor.
Target Product Profile Development
Commercialized products and relevant pipeline candidates are rigorously profiled based on available, efficacy, safety, dosing, formulation, and other variables. Based on these parameters…coupled with expert feedback from key opinion leaders and fundamental market, clinical and delivery-of-care analyses…an idealized product profile is developed which provides a “target” for the client to aim for in clinical trial planning. TPP analyses and insights have empowered client decisions regarding technology platform optimization as well as prioritization efforts across the entire pipeline.
Clinical Development Planning
Given a product candidate’s target product profile, we craft a detailed clinical development plan that includes pipeline prioritization and a range of development options, detailed descriptions of the efficacy, safety and other endpoint metrics, decision pathways and trigger points and, ultimately, investment considerations.
Franchise Strategies
Our franchise engagements move beyond individual products and technologies to develop a fully integrated plan within a therapeutic area and/or around a particular technology platform. Focus of the effort spans the entire value chain from early development through commercialization and characterizes the fundamental success factors that must be mastered.
Given the increasing pricing pressures, competitive intensity and paucity of pipeline blockbusters, it will be critical for all players to embrace the efficiencies, synergies and economies of scope that are potentially offered by a coherent franchise approach.
The Frankel Group approach always mates technology with market-defined critical success factors. This philosophy ensures that our recommendations are actionable and highly consistent with market needs and demands, thereby reducing development and commercial risk.
